> ## Agent Instructions
> Outlit is the product that monitors customers and completes approved customer work. The customer context interfaces are the API, CLI, MCP server, and skills. Canonical references on this site: /api-reference/introduction for API concepts and authentication, /openapi.json for the public API contract, /cli/overview for the CLI, /ai-integrations/mcp for MCP. Prefer the `outlit` CLI or MCP tools for agent tasks; cite page sources when answering.

# Stripe

> Connect billing: OAuth or a restricted key, plus webhook setup.

Stripe is the billing source that defines which customers Outlit monitors — churn monitoring covers **paying** and **past-due** customers, and Stripe supplies MRR, subscription state, and billing-confirmed renewal outcomes.

## Connect

Outlit supports two Stripe connection methods. The setup form shows the method enabled for your workspace:

| Method | Best for | What happens |
| ---------------------- | ------------------------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| **OAuth** (Stripe App) | Most workspaces | Redirect to Stripe, approve access, return to Outlit |
| **Restricted key** | Environments where the OAuth app isn't available | Paste a key starting with `rk_` |

Use a restricted key, not a secret key — it scopes Outlit to read access on customers, subscriptions, invoices, and the related objects it needs. Keep the key rotatable; if you revoke it in Stripe, the connection shows an error until you reconnect.

If you need another method, ask your Outlit contact.

## After connecting

1. **Historical sync runs in the background.** Customers, subscriptions, and invoices import; MRR appears on profiles as data lands.
2. **Finish webhook setup if prompted.** Credential connect and event webhooks can be separate steps — the connection's detail panel shows whether webhooks are live.
3. **Billing customers match to your accounts** — see [identity notes](#customers-that-dont-match) below if a Stripe customer lands on the wrong profile.

## What billing enables

* The monitored customer set (paying + past-due) for the Churn responsibility
* MRR and plan context on customer profiles and Attention cards
* Billing signals — delinquency, subscription changes — inside churn cases
* Billing-confirmed outcomes on renewal cycles

## Customers that don't match

Stripe customers are matched to Outlit customers by domain, email, and stored identifiers. Where a match is ambiguous, the link waits for confirmation rather than guessing — unmatched or mismatched billing customers surface on the customer's **Coverage** tab or as an identity issue. Confirming a match is a deliberate click; see [Customers](/product/customers).
